If you’re interested in being baptized or have any questions about the process, please feel free to reach out. We’d be glad to talk with you, answer any questions, and share more about what baptism means.

Baptism illustrates the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Colossians 2:12). When someone is baptized, they are symbolically buried with Christ in the water and raised to new life, reflecting the transformation that has taken place in their heart (Romans 6:4; 2 Corinthians 5:17). Baptism does not save you; it is your faith in Jesus that brings salvation (Ephesians 2:8–9)—but it is a powerful, public expression of that faith. Like a wedding ring, it is an outward symbol of an inward commitment, showing that you are now following Jesus and living a new life in Him.

Baptism by immersion follows the example set by Jesus, who was baptized and came up out of the water (Matthew 3:16). Throughout the Bible, baptism was consistently practiced this way, symbolizing being fully buried and raised again, just as Christ was (Acts 8:38–39; Colossians 2:12). The word “baptize” itself means to immerse, which best represents the powerful picture of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. For these reasons, we practice baptism by immersion at RockCreek as a meaningful and biblical expression of faith.

Baptism is for every person who has made the decision to believe in and follow Jesus. In Scripture, we see that those who believed the message of Jesus were baptized as a next step of faith (Acts 2:41; Acts 8:12–13). Because of this, baptism is a personal decision that follows salvation, not something done before someone understands its meaning. At RockCreek, we wait until children are old enough to personally understand the gospel, make their own decision to follow Jesus, and understand the significance of baptism.

When you are baptized, you will enter the baptism tank where one or two team members will be there to guide you. Pastor Bryan will ask if you have made Jesus the Lord of your life, and after you respond, you will be briefly lowered under the water and raised again. Afterward, you can dry off, celebrate with others, and receive your baptism certificate. We also take photos to capture and celebrate your special day.

Water baptism is an opportunity to publicly share what God has done in your life. Through the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection, you have been made new from the inside out. We encourage everyone to invite family and friends to celebrate this meaningful moment with you.
Wear dark colored clothes that won’t retain a lot of water (no jeans or sweats), such as swim trunks, dark shorts, or yoga pants. We will provide a baptism T-shirt for you to wear and a towel to dry off with. Be sure to bring a change of clothes and a plastic bag for your wet items.
